Destination: Wasgamuwa

Wasgamuwa National Park is a wildlife sanctuary in central Sri Lanka, known for its rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes. Located between the districts of Matale and Polonnaruwa, it is famous for its large elephant population, especially during the dry season when elephants can be seen in herds. The park is also home to a variety of other animals such as sloth bears, leopards, deer, and over 140 species of birds.

The Mahaweli River flows through the park, adding to its beauty and providing water for the wildlife. Wasgamuwa is relatively less crowded compared to other national parks, offering a peaceful environment for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The park has a significant historical and cultural importance, with ancient ruins and irrigation systems from the Polonnaruwa era visible within its boundaries.
